i think a lot about a tweet i saw ages ago that was like, when i use Power over Ethernet for something, that thing feels like a piece of furniture -- it just keeps working, it doesn't randomly break, contrast with Wi-Fi https://social.omar.website/@omar/statuses/01H7NJJANC7HM3R5T4BCSW0AKQ
@omar corollary, it’s weird to me there isn’t a standard, super common arduino-like thing that’s PoE
@omar a lot of “furniture” has PoE variants now! (lighting, speakers, water sensors, etc)
i guess part of the problem with Wi-Fi in installations is that it's at cross purposes -- it's normally designed for mobility and dynamic behavior like you can carry your laptop/printer/phone around to different places, but in an installation you want it permanently locked and constantly trying to reconnect, there is an objectively correct state you want it to always get to
like i think it's less about problems with radio waves per se and more about problems with complicated persistent state on various sides of the Wi-Fi connection
